New Poll: More Than 1-In-3 Black Voters Now Support TrumpPresident Trump’s support in the African-American community is growing according to a new poll which shows more than one-in-three black voters now support him.
As the Washington Examiner reports, both Emerson Polling and Rasmussen Reports have African American support at 34 percent. These results are not without its critics and Democratic pollster Cornell Belcher is one of them. Belcher claims the poll used “small subsamples” and suggested a wider polled group would show a smaller number of African Americans supporting the president. “I’m not going to bad mouth anyone’s polling here, but particularly with small subsamples, you get blips. When you look across the data and even look back to see what the trend is, it’s pretty apparent that numbers like that are outliers,” he said. The Washington Examiner reports Zogby responded to these claims and agreed, showing a sharp decline in support for Trump among black voters when Trump was put against leading Democratic primary candidates. Despite the decline, Trump is still posting better figures within the African American community than any Republican president or presidential candidate in the last 40 years: In all cases, while black support for Trump dropped when an alternative was offered, it was higher than the 8% he received in 2016 and maybe enough to push him across the finish line first in 2020. Against Joe Biden, Trump receives 12% of the black vote. Against Sen. Bernie Sanders, it was 14%. And against Sen. Elizabeth Warren, it was 17%. Those levels are the best for a GOP president or presidential candidate since 1968. More |
